What is IDEA House? IDEA House is a year-round school program specifically designed to meet the needs of students with developmental disabilities. It is a "stage, not age" program that acknowledges every student develops at an individual pace. IDEA House offers a rigorous curriculum, supported by behavioral coaching and independence fostering, designed to maximize opportunities for our students after graduation, including access to a four-year college.
Who is eligible to attend? Students living in Ohio, with a current IEP, in grades Pre-K through age 22 may be eligible to attend IDEA House.
What programs do you offer? IDEA House offers individualized education plans for students with varying academic, social, and behavioral needs. Students who are ready for a small-group learning setting may attend IDEA House to receive remedial, grade-level, or even advanced level instruction. Students needing more time to acclimate or develop school-ready concepts may attend the Foundations program to prepare for a transition to IDEA House.
Do you use a specific curriculum? Just as each student is unique, so must be the instruction presented in our classrooms. Lessons are specifically designed to address the needs of our students, based upon the Ohio standards for learning, and are supported by a plethora of researched-based materials and strategies.
How much does the program cost? Student intervention is funded through the Ohio Autism and Jon Peterson Scholarship programs. No student will be denied access to the high-quality educational program of IDEA House due to financial restrictions.
What is the staffing to student ratio? Every classroom team consists of at least one lead staff member and one supporting attendant. The IDEA House ratio is generally one staff member for every 3 students.
Why do the students attend year-round? The IDEA House students attend school Monday-Thursday throughout the entire calendar year to maximize the effectiveness of instruction, prevent regression, and maintain an active and predictable routine.
